I stand with Palestine in 2021: Not everyday solidarity through google, textbooks and ya biased curriculum.

Knowledge is power, but apparently so is wealth. Peadagoly insists a Capitalist schooling framework which teaches us to undermine and undervalue those with limited access to formal education. Education in the west, tends to prep and prime folk to be compliant workers, folk that rationalise the emotional, so that our morals and values won’t get in the way of being a great 'worker’.

In plain English, what I think I mean by this is that, the reason why you say things like "that person is smart, they went to uni" is because success in the projects of oppression, like elitism, classicism and racism rely on making access to knowledge, history and education really difficult. They rely on you thinking you’re better than lived experience, qualitative data and generational wisdom. They cost top dollar, have you obsessed with the dehumanisation of the 'blue collar’.

Last week, I had to sit uncomfortably with this feeling. A long term friend I went to school with quickly came with a 'but I have a degree' defence when I challenged their politic. Apparently, my solidarity with the people of Palestine, and observations of the imprisonment of the young population in the Gaza strip is a result of my lack of formal education. A apparently no map of a state of Palestine on Google meant that everything I had to say was rubbish. When it came down to it, the years of reading, speaking and community based learning I’ve done…
